Santiago - Wind

Summary of the wind scene
Santiago looks out to the desert and it speaks to him. Santiago tells the desert about his love for Fatima, and it offers its sand to Santiago to help the wind blow. It says that Santiago will also have to ask the wind for help.
A breeze picks up as Santiago asks the wind for help. The wind argues that Santiago differs too much from it, but Santiago contends that he desires to reach all corners of the world, just like the wind. The wind understands but doesn’t know what to do. Santiago tells the wind that love can empower it to do anything. The wind feels like Santiago demeans what it already knows how to do. It blows harder, annoyed, and tells Santiago to talk to the Hand That Wrote All. Santiago says he will, but that first the wind should create a sandstorm so he can look into the sky without the sun blinding him.
The wind picks up into a powerful gale called the simum and the tribesman ask their chief if they can stop Santiago’s stunt. The chief, however, wants to see Santiago complete his task. Santiago speaks to the sun. The sun tells him it knows of love, but Santiago argues it does not. Santiago says that all things have their own Personal Legend, and when something realizes its Personal Legend, it must change so it can acquire a new Personal Legend. Alchemists use this process to coax lead into becoming gold. After hearing Santiago’s words, the sun decides to shine more brightly, and the wind blows harder so it can continue to block out the brightness.
Santiago tells the sun that love transforms the Soul of the World and asks the sun to turn him into the wind. The sun says it can’t and suggests Santiago speak to the Hand That Wrote All. The wind is happy to see the limit to the sun’s wisdom and blows harder. Santiago communicates with the Hand That Wrote All but senses he should not speak. Instead, he prays and experiences a rush of love.

Dichotomous Relationships in The Alchemist

Books vs Experience
Learning things from/or by experiencing them are much better then just reading them. You actually get to see, touch, hear, or smell  and thats how you know how to learn see how many things work and what can cause other things to happen. If you read things in a book you might be able to visualize images but its never the same as being able to actually experience it. Life lessons are an example of experiencing things. When something happens to you know already whether to do that certain something again or having the option to be able to not do it.

Desert vs Oasis
What do you think when you think of the word desert? what do you visualize in your head? Well when someone talks about the desert to me i just think of sand everywhere, hot weather a lonely place and just standing there and seeing endless little sand hills everywhere. Its also all in the open and its dangerious. its hard for people to survive out in the desert. Fights go on there, and only really only dangerious animals servive there. The weather in the desert isn't all that well either because it is really hot during the day and cold at night. Those characterstics about the desert are MUCH different from an Oasis because to me an oasis is a place for family, water everywhere and just seems like a relaxing place, its also a place for refuge, it is cool all around. There is water and you can use that for many things that can come in handy.

Quote Ex

I  guess a hard time in my life when i was ready to give up was when my mom had got deported while i was on vacation in Mexico. It was a very difficult period of time for me because i had to come back from vacation to try to start school and i had to do everything on my own without my parents. The good thing was that my aunt was always there for me if i were to need anything. It wasn't all easy because i started to fall behind in school. There was a point where i was just stressed out and had so much to do i just had so much on my mind but then i started to think about the situation more and i needed to better myself and try to work better in school to try to become a better person for my family and actually try to do something with my life. I was just trying to make the situation a little better instead of just quitting and making things worse. That's when i got back on track my sophomore year. Now I'm just trying to graduate and better everything.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us."
This quote means that people are scared use there all that at the end they will end up with nothing, and they wont have anything to look forward to, thinking that if at the end the do what the have wanted to do there would be no point in life because they have done what they always wanted, and that frightens many.

The quote relates to the Crystal merchant because he is scared that if he goes on to Mecca he will have nothing to live and look forward to after he gets back, he is also scared of change he doesnt know who to leave his shop to if he were to go to Mecca. Thats why he tells Santiago that his dreams are different from his.

How to reach your Personal Lengend

You can always accomplish anything you want no matter what it is. One can always make anything happen as long as they put effort to what they want. Anything is able to be made if you are willing to work hard enough for it. Friends family and other might sometimes hold you back from making your personal legend happen. Always be patient because that is also part of one accomplishing a goal and making whatever you want happen.  In the Alchemist Santiago had to give up his job being a Shepherd in order to travel this great distance to the pyramids in Egypt. Many times sacrifices have to be made in order to get to your goal. Santiago had to sell and leave his sheep in order to work and get money to be able to go to the pyramids of Giza, while he does this he learns a lot thanks to the new people he has met. Good or bad he learns from them.

While trying to Accomplish your person legend you will have to go through alot, but what I think if something it really important and if its a great goal that really matters to you then you should try to accomplish it no matter what, if so then its always worth waiting and making sacrifices for.

" we made it" accomplishing your Person Legend
The bottom picture that says we can do it shows the pyramids and how close they are to accompishing there goal..Santiago seeing the pyramids and him thinking he finally did it and made it happen after everything.

The Alchemist - Symbolism

In this collage I Chose these four pictures for a specific reason for each. In the first picture with the pyramids was choosen by me because it is where Santiago must find his treasure. On the top right i chose that picture for the fact that Santiago was a shepherd and he travled with his sheep and that is something that he liked doing. The picture on the lower left represents His treasure and what he has been waiting to find. That is his personal legend. On the lower right I chose that picture because He was at one point confused on whether he should leave his sheep to go find the treasure in the pyramids of Giza or to keep on traving with his sheep and learn and see new things. He didnt know what way to go, he had to make up his mind.
